I watched a video of an Edo lady riding from Kenya to Morocco on a 250CC powerbike. 200-250CC engine displacement is the engine capacity range of many regular motorcycles. Some won’t even call such motorcycles a powerbike.
As such, many people find it shocking that she rides a 250CC bike on such a long trip. There is a widespread assumption that you need more powerful bikes for those kind of trips. But the lady is doing it anyway and having a ball at it.
For many years, I did extensive road trips in a 1.3-litre engine car. On my longest trip ever, I drove Lagos to Zaria and back in that car.
Perhaps you have thought that unless you have a more powerful motorcycle with, say, a 500CC engine, or an SUV or truck, you can not do road trips. You would be cheating yourself out of great experiences with that mindset.
I assure you that for the most part, you can make great things happen with whatever you have, within reason. This principle applies for recreation or work.
Don’t wait for everything to be perfect before acting to achieve your goals. Use what you have to get things done, even if all you have is a cheap smartphone, a 250CC bike, or a 2nd hand entry-level car.
I suspect a 250cc bike was easier to repair in every country compared to a 500cc bike. Plus I’ll bet she didn’t have an everlasting crew of people accompanying her. Sounds pragmatic
Those are very valid points. Like you said, it is an extremely pragmatic choice.
