God will not save Nigeria
Every time there is a discussion about how bad things are in Nigeria, there is that one person who will come up with “God will save us” as a response. And then others will chorus the usual amen.
No; God will not. I assure you. This country will fall to bits and become Afghanistan, Sudan, or Venezuel if we do not sit up and get to work.
The USA you see today is the result of people who rolled up their sleeves and got to work because they knew God wasn’t going to do anything for them. God did not build the great railroads that fostered the prosperity of America. Men did.
Have you been to the Scandinavian countries of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden and others around them? Those countries have the highest standards of living in the world and aren’t very religious. But they have dedicated leadership and people.
And speaking of dedicated people, have you met the Japanese? They built that tiny island into a technological and economic force.Yet, they do not have churches and mosques on every street.
20 years ago, China was just another 3rd world country. God didn’t save that country. As a matter of fact, the Chinese are generally not very welcoming of religion. Religious persecuation goes on there till date. But look where China is today.
Nigerians flock to Dubai at every opportunity. But it wasn’t God that worked the miracle of Dubai. It was humans with great dreams. Dubai reminds me of the story of the tower of Babel (and I wonder why God isn’t scattering them this time, because those guys are building into the heavens). Humans rolled up their sleeves and built that city.
If you know human history, you already know that I need not go on and on. Ancient Greece. Ancient Rome. Ancient Benin.
God will not save Nigeria.
I was in prayer meetings and marathon fastings for Nigeria in the early 90s. Some of you are still participating in those events till today. Yet, Nigeria has gotten worse and worse. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Nigerians are insane people.
Every small thing, God. Your God is either deaf, unwilling to save Nigeria, powerless, or you are doing it wrong. Or all of the above.
The salvation of this country is not in the hands of God. It will not happen because we pray or fast or go to church or mosque. We have been doing all of that for decades. Look where we are.
And we do that because we are irresponsible people who love to abdicate responsibility. The government abdicates their responsibility. The people abdicate theirs. And we want God to come get it all done with a magic wand. But if you want to build something great, you go work for it instead of hoping for divine intervention. That is how EVERY GREAT NATION was built. It has nothing to do with faith in God.
The salvation of this country will happen when we roll up our sleeves and get to work – all the way from the top leadership to the very grassroots. And I will be here to remind us at every opportunity.
PS: Someone will read this article and come tell me that they are worried about my personal salvation. If that is you, you are worried about the wrong thing, sadly.
